Majithia visits border areas to take stock of the make shift arrangements



Punjab Revenue & Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia today visited border areas in the Amritsar district to take stock of the make shift arrangements made for the villagers who have been shifted from the areas near Indo-Pak border.

-        Mr. Majithia assured the people that every help and support would be provided to the shifted people by the Punjab Government. He said that the Government has decided to evacuate the 10 kilometer area along the Indo-Pak International border as a precautionary measure after surgical attacks by the Indian Army on Pakistani militants.   

-       The Minister said that people should not panic due to rumors but be cautious. He said that people of Punjab are very brave and even shown their strength in the past instances and wholeheartedly supported the National Cause. He said that we should cooperate with our Security forces as they are here to protect us.

-       Mr. Majithia said that financial grant for these make shift arrangements has been released by the Punjab Government to the district administration. He said that six temporary camps have been set up in the area at Sugar Mill Village Bhalla, Gurudwara Guru Ki Baag Ajnala, Gurudwara Jago Shaheed Khiala, Senior Secondary School Bhakna, Senior Secondary School Khasa and Gurdwara Guru Ki Wadali Cheerata. He said that six more camps are being set up at various places. He further said that arrangements of food, accommodation, medical support, electricity, toilet facilities are also being made by the Punjab Government. He said that besides this green fodder is being arranged for animals.

-       Mr. Majithia said that clear cut instructions have been issued to the police administration to protect the houses of the people who have been evacuated to the safer places. He also said that people need not panic as Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal has asked the Union petroleum minister to increase the supply of diesel and petrol in the area.

-       Mr. Majithia that the administration will provide all support to the farmers to cultivate the paddy crop and also appealed to the people not harvest premature paddy. He said that Punjab government is committed to ensure purchase of every grain of paddy brought to the Mandis.

The Punjab Education Minister, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema has issued instruction to make the provision alternate arrangement of education for the students of border districts who have to displaced from their native places in the wake of escalation of tension on the Indo-Pak Border.

In a press communiqué released here today Cheema said that students who have been shifted to relief camps would get the education in the nearby schools. He said that these students would not be required to take formal admission and to deposit any fee in these schools. He said that the education department would take care of all the needs of these students so that their formal education may not suffer. He said that if dur the influx of more students proper class room teaching is effected then the special separate section would be created in the schools. Cheema further said that if any students who have not shifted to relief camps but had gone to his relative’s place, he may also attend the nearby schools without any formal admission or fee depositing.

CM Badal Lauds Army for Surgical Operations



Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Indian Army’s surgical strikes on terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC), inside Pakistan-Ocupied Kashmir (POK), hailing it as an "apt, timely and effective operation”.
 
Chief Minister Badal also put the entire government and political machinery in an emergency mode following reports of developments on the Indo-Pak border.
 
While monitoring the current situation during an emergency meeting convened at his official residence, Badal directed the Chief Secretary and DGP, who were present in the meeting, to ask the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to oversee the entire evacuation process in the border districts of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Amritsar, Taran Tarn, Gurdaspur and Pathankot. The Chief Minister directed the DCs to identify suitable location for setting up camps and ensure that none of any residents being evacuated was put to any sort of inconvenience or hardships.
 
At a press conference later, Badal said that the people of Punjab are "ready to face the situation in this crisis”.

"Punjab, which is rightly called the sword arm of India, has suffered immensely because of the inhuman and ghastly acts of terrorism by these elements. Peace and communal harmony in the state has been one of the prime targets of these elements as was evident in the attacks on Dinanagar and Pathankot,” the CM also stated in a written statement.

Badal stated that the Centre and Punjab were totally aware of the challenge posed to life and property of those residing along the border in view of the current situation.
 
Rajnath Singh also spoke to CM over telephone this morning to request him to immediately start the process of evacuation of the people residing in the villages falling within ten kilometres of the International border in view of the escalating situation.

Schools and colleges have been earmarked as camps for the evacuated population and medical teams were also alerted to reach the camps, while many families opted to move to their relatives or friends'.
 
Nearly 1,000 villages in six districts of the state are being evacuated partially or fully.
 
Following the home ministry’s directions Punjab CM Badal directed all educational institutions in the border districts to be closed till further orders and cancelled all leaves for emergency services like police, health and district administration.

Punjab shares about 550 km border with pakistan.

Memorial to come up in memory of children killed in accident: Sukhbir



 The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal today visited village muhava to share grief of the bereaved families of 7 school children killed in a recent road accident at village muhava. He met the bereaved families and deeply condoled with them. He also announced Rs. 20 lakh to set up a stadium in the village in the memory of deceased children and disclosed that a memorial in the memory of the children would also be constructed. Badal also announced the upgradation of the village school to senior secondary school status.
     
                On the occasion, S. Badal instructed the Public Works department to construct a cemented fence through increasing the width by one and a half feet each by breaking the railing around the bridge causing accident and all the other such bridges. He also gave instructions to the district administration to send the name of child Karanbir Singh who saved the lives of many children for the National award.

On the occasion MLA and Cabinet Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, Harkanwalpreet Singh Khakk, SSP (Rural) Rajesh Sharma, SDM Gurinderpal Singh Laali Ranike and others were also present

Punjab implemented ideology of Dr. Ambedkar in true spirit: Sukhbir Singh Badal



The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that Punjab is the only state which has implemented the ideology of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in true spirit. Addressing the 4th seminar as part of 6 seminar series to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of ‘Bharat Ratna’ Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar at Dasmesh auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University here, the Deputy Chief Minister spoke on ‘Baba Saheb and Constitution’ and paid flowing tributes to Baba Saheb. The Deputy Chief Minister also announced to christen the forthcoming World Kabaddi Cup in November as ‘Dr. Ambedkar World Kabaddi Cup’ besides declaring that the soon to be opened 2600 free medicine shops in the state would also be named after Dr. Ambedkar.

            Divulging more, S. Badal also said that the subject pertaining to the life histories and philosophy of the great personalities would be made mandatory in all the universities of Punjab in order to enable the coming generations to adopt his lofty ideals for their personality development. The Deputy Chief Minister also said that Punjab carries forward the proud legacy of secularism in accordance with which the people belonging to different castes, races and religions live peacefully with each other with equal respect for every religion which is amply clear from the non-occurrence of riots even in times of disturbance. He also disclosed that the Punjab government has constructed huge memorials for the sake of preserving culture and traditions of the state besides carrying out beautification projects such as Bhagwan Valmiki memorial at Ramtirath, Guru Ravidass memorial at Khuralgarh and beautification of Durgiana mandir.

            Giving more details, S. Badal said that Punjab has 31 percent of dalit population whereas throughout the country the ratio comes to just 16 percent. He also highlighted the development oriented initiatives of the state government such as atta-dal scheme for poor and weaker sections of the society, shagan scheme, construction of houses and flushes, scholarship schemes, free books, free power, free technical training for skill development, free education for girls. Disclosing further, he said that dharamshalas have been constructed in villages besides Dr. Ambedkar bhawans in urban centers and also protection cells have been established for stopping the atrocities on Scheduled Castes. Informing further, S. Badal said that the SC/ST scholarship scheme which was just Rs. 13 crore has now been increased to Rs. 600 crore. Regarding the education scenario, he said that now the trend of Punjab’s students going to other states has been reversed and instead the students from other states are coming to Punjab for study purposes. He also said that with IIT Ropar, IIM Amritsar, AIIMS Bathinda and Indian School of Business, the state has carved out a niche in educational sector at the international level. He also informed that by the end of October all the development projects in the holy city Amritsar would be completed and the city would emerge as the global tourism hub. He exhorted the people to follow the ideas of Dr. Ambedkar and said that Punjab would be a role model in this aspect.

            Addressing the gathering, Chief guest Lt. Governor of Puducherry Dr. Kiran Bedi said that following in the footsteps of Dr. Ambedkar can change the country. She said that people should take inspiration from the lives of Gurus, Saints and other great personalities and as a consequence develop their personality and character. She urged the youth to focus on self education instead of ‘Facebook’ and devoted majority of their time to quench their thirst for knowledge and sports. She also labeled abiding by law, staying true to word and self confidence as necessary aspects of becoming a good citizen. She also inspired the people to be a part of swachh bharat campaign and thus focus on keeping environment clean. She also praised the steps formulated by the Punjab government for the benefit of poor and backward sections of society.

            On the occasion, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal said that the ideals of Dr. Ambedkar are relevant even today as they were 70 years ago. He further brought to light the fact that it was a herculean task to prepare a constitution of a diverse country like India but Dr. Ambedkar accomplished the task with flying colours. He further pointed out that Dr. Ambedkar was a great scholar, social reformer, politician, lawmaker, constitution builder, farsighted and a champion of human rights who thinking process included all the sections of society. He also said that the visionary approach of Dr. Ambedkar was not understood by the contemporaries and his advocacy in 1955 of dividing Madhya Pradesh and Bihar into 2 parts was finally turned into a reality after 50 years. Former Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan called Dr. Ambedkar as a multifaceted personality who did a great service by creating the constitution with democratic and equality as key aspects. On the occasion, MP Shwet Malik said that Dr. Ambedkar eradicated the menace of discrimination from the society by keeping equality as the key word from which the people should get inspiration.

            Among others present on the occasion were cabinet ministers Punjab Gulzar Singh Ranike and Anil Joshi, MLA Baljit Singh Jalalusma, Chairman Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Rajesh Bagha, Chairman District Planning Committee Veer Singh Lopoke, District (Urban) President SAD Gurpartap Singh Tikka, Vice Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University Dr. Ajaib Singh Brar, Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora and others. The stage was perfectly managed by the Convenor of the seminars Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal.
