Kejriwal trivializing drugs issue to divert attention from drug abuse charges against own party leaders: Capt Amarinder
Accusing him of trivializing a serious issue like drugs, Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal’s frivolous and shameless remarks on the same, saying he was resorting to all kinds of falsehoods on the subject in a desperate bid to divert attention from charges of drug abuse against his own party’s leaders.
With AAP workers and volunteers themselves making allegations of drugs abuse against party leaders, many of whom are also caught in corruption and sex scandals, Kejriwal was now resorting to diversion tactics by indulging in blatant lies against the Congress, said Amarinder.
Referring to his party’s fight against the drugs menace and his own personal commitment to wipe out drugs from Punjab within four weeks of assuming power, the PPCC president lashed out at Kejriwal over his reported 'drug peddling' remarks against the Congress, saying it also reflected the AAP national convenor’s utter disconnect with the people of the state, which was grappling with a serious drugs problem.
Having ditched the people of Punjab on critical issues such as SYL, on which he failed to stand by the state, Kejriwal was now rubbing salt on their wounds on the drugs issue by making misleading statements on it, Captain Amarinder said.
Amarinder once again challenged Kejriwal to come out for an open debate on issues of vital interest to Punjab, including drugs and SYL, instead of making unfounded allegations and resorting to cheap gimmickry.
"Simply copying the Congress promise on drugs unabashedly is not enough. The people of Punjab want you to convince them of your seriousness in the matter, especially given your track record of changing your mind 10 times a day,” said Captain Amarinder, asking Kejriwal to make his own stand clear on the subject of drugs since his own party workers and volunteers had accused senior AAP leaders of indulging in drugs use.
With AAP itself mired in serious scams and scandals, including drugs, Kejriwal should spend his precious time putting his own house in order instead of making baseless allegations against others, Captain declared, warning the AAP leader that his desperate attempts to hoodwink the people would backfire on him and he would have be left with no face to show in Punjab after the coming assembly polls.
Manpreet Badal lashes out at Kejriwal for questioning Capt Amarinder’s integrity
Senior Punjab Congress leader Manpreet Badal on Saturday lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal for questioning the credibility of Captain Amarinder Singh, saying as a rank outsider with no knowledge or understanding of Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had absolutely no right to challenge the Punjab Congress president’s integrity.
Amarinder is the son of Punjab who has made many sacrifices for the state, which Kejriwal clearly seems unaware of, said Badal, castigating the AAP national convenor for the personal attack launched on the Captain in a desperate bid to befool the people of the state.
Pointing out that Captain Amarinder had always led from the front when it came to securing the interests of Punjab and its people, Manpreet Badal said he had courageously faced the bullets in the Khemkaran sector to protect the people of Punjab, and in fact the nation, whereas Kejriwal had always run away, every time his people needed his support.
Kejriwal is obviously completely ignorant of the multitude of sacrifices made by Amarinder, who resigned from the Army on June 25, 1965, to take over the management of his family estate after his father was posted outside India, and then just a few days later took back his resignation to fight for the country when the war with Pakistan broke out, said Badal.
Whether it was his resignation from the Congress and the Parliament following Operation Blue Star, or his tough stance on the SYL issue, the former Punjab chief minister has always taken a principled stand for the state, unlike Kejriwal who has repeatedly failed the people of Punjab on critical issues, Badal pointed out. Kejriwal’s track record in Delhi is a precursor to his plans for Punjab, Badal added.
Cornering Kejriwal over his personal attack on Captain Amarinder, Badal nailed his lies by pointing out that Capt. Amarinder had not been taking alcohol for the past three years. The AAP leader, said Badal, was simply trying to befool the people by making such baseless and unfounded allegations.
Badal further said the people of Punjab were fully aware of Captain Amarinder’s selfless love for them and would not be misled by the ranting of a mad man, whose only agenda was to seize power in the state by hook or by crook, in order to realize his personal ambitions.
Badal also came down heavily on the AAP candidate from Majithia, Himmat Singh Shergill, saying he should be ashamed of allowing Kejriwal to make such false and baseless allegations against Captain Amarinder in his presence. Captain Amarinder had helped Shergill and his family in their hour of personal crisis, which he seemed to have conveniently forgotten after joining AAP, said Badal, adding that the people of Punjab would give them all a befitting reply in the coming Assembly elections.
Will contest upcoming polls on development, peace plank: Badal
Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal today declared that peace, communal harmony and development would be the main agenda of the SAD-BJP alliance for the ensuing state assembly polls.
Addressing the public gatherings during Sangat Darshan in Patiala (Rural) assembly segment here today, the Chief Minister said that peace and communal harmony were the catalyst of development in the state due to which the state government has accorded top priority in preserving and strengthening these ethoses. He said that the state government has taken historic initiatives for the well being of each and every strata of society. Badal said that besides strengthening the bond of brotherhood and amity in the state the alliance government has ensured all-round development of state in last decade due to which Punjab was leading the country in every sector.
Badal said that following the path of socialism and secularism, the alliance government has taken a number of steps including Atta-Dal, Shagun, Pensions, Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme and others for the welfare of the weaker sections of society. Likewise, he said that the state government has done an onerous task of preserving the glorious history of Punjab by constructing several memorials. Senior Badal said that the SAD-BJP government had already cherished the long desire of the people of all faiths from the state to offer an opportunity to pay obeisance at sacred cities by embarking Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra Scheme. He said that under this scheme state government was organizing free trains/bus service for the pilgrims along with other logistic facilities.
Lashing out at the Congress party, the Chief Minister said that the tyrannies of the Congress with the state have surpassed even the record of Mughals and Britishers as this anti-Punjab party has irrelevantly meddled not only in social, economic and political but even the religious matters of the state. Badal said that no true Punjabi could ever forgive Congress for sins like Operation Blue Star and the killing of innocents in 1984 anti-Sikh carnage. He said that the Congress has inflicted a severe blow to the Punjabis by depriving them of their capital, legitimate share in river waters and even Punjabi speaking areas.
The Chief Minister slammed the Congress party for hatching the conspiracy to rob the water of state by digging the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal. He reiterated that Punjab neither has spare water to share with anyone, nor any need for the construction of SYL canal and nobody would be allowed to construct this canal in future. Badal said that the Congress has divested the state of its rights by giving water to Rajasthan, Haryana and other states.
Recalling the grave conspiracy conceived by Congress to divest the state of its legitimate share in river waters, the Chief Minister held the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi squarely responsible for Punjab's crisis as she forced the erstwhile Congress Chief Minister of Punjab Darbara Singh into signing an agreement to give away Punjab's waters to Haryana. Badal also held state Congress Chief Amarinder Singh responsible for inviting Mrs. Indira Gandhi to start the digging of the canal at Kapuri in his own constituency Patiala by offering her a silver spade to start the digging. He said that while Congress rejoiced the occasion, the SAD had launched a long peaceful democratic morcha for Punjab's interests as a result of which no river waters went out of Punjab after that.
Taking Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to cudgels, the Chief Minister said that it was anti-Punjab and anti-people in character. He reminded the people that AAP leadership was also hell bent upon turning the state into desert by robbing its water. Badal said that the leaders of this party were having an anti-Punjab mindset that could prove very fatal for the state.
Later on interacting with the media persons, CM said that the demonetization move of NDA Government led by Prime Minister Modi would prove very beneficial for the countrymen as this step has been taken in larger interest of the country. He said that after initial hiccups this scheme, which was the brain child of Modi, would act as a catalyst to wipe out the parallel economy propelled by Black money and corruption from country besides several other social maladies.
Highlighting the significance of Sangat Darshans, Badal said that it was the flagship program of SAD-BJP alliance government aimed at ensuring the well being of every strata of society. He said that this was a pro-people exercise being conducted thoroughly in a transparent manner.
Stop making cheap, unsubstantiated statements, talk on hard facts: Capt Amarinder to Kejriwal
Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday challenged AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to come out for an open debate with him on all substantive issues relating to the state instead of indulging in cheap and undignified gimmickry out of sheer frustration in the face of imminent defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Accusing him of eyeing the state’s chief ministerial post, Amarinder Singh asked Kejriwal to come out with the name of the party’s CM candidate, saying the people of Punjab wanted to know who they were voting for. Kejriwal, in the forlorn hope of his party winning the assembly polls, was waiting to take over the chief ministerial post, said Captain, adding that this was the reason for his refusal to declare the chief ministerial candidate in Punjab even though he had named the Goa CM candidate for AAP.
Citing the large number of AAP posters in Delhi showcasing Manish Sisodia, Captain Amarinder said this clearly indicated that Kejriwal had no interest in carrying on as Delhi’s chief minister as he had his sights set on heading the government of the larger state of Punjab.
Dismissing Kejriwal’s frivolous allegations on the Congress party’s jobs promise, Captain Amarinder said the people of Punjab were aware of his commitment to fulfill all his promises and asked the AAP leader to leave it to him to decide the modalities of giving jobs to the youth of the state.
Charging Kejriwal with resorting to blatant lies to divert the attention of the people from his own party’s scandals and scams, Captain Amarinder accused him of making baseless allegations against the Congress on the job front.
The PPCC leader pointed out that his government had appointed nearly 50,000 government employees and more than 12000 teachers through the panchayati raj institutions (PRIs), besides giving thousands of jobs to other people during his tenure.
It was evident that either Kejriwal did not know anything about Punjab or was deliberately trying to befool the people with falsehoods, said Amarinder, adding the people of the state would not be taken in with such lies as they were fully aware of his (Amarinder’s) commitment to them. Whether it’s drugs or employment or other issues plaguing the state, every promise made to the people would be fulfilled in totality, the Punjab Congress leader added.
