SADD demands GNDU VC resignation for co-opting Yog Sadhak as Chief Guest

Unable to discover the real art of living in the shabad of Sri Guru Nanak and Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) chose a jet-setter practitioner of yog sadhna 50 years after its inception, the SADD has observed as it sought vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu’s immediate resignation.

Amritsar’s GNDU was set up on the occasion of the 500th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak in 1969.

Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar during the 50th foundation day function of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), in Amritsar on Nov 24, 2019

"Fifty years later, the GNDU, in a cruel twist of irony, threw open its podium to a five-star trader of yog sadhna and ayurvedic herbs as a chief guest to celebrate its birth,” SADD chief Paramjit Singh Sarna noted. "Is there a shortage in India and overseas of proponents of Guru Nanak’s doctrine that the GNDU had to invite someone whose art of living is not in synch with the art of living prescribed by Guru Nanak? Dr Sandhu must put in his papers immediately for this gross violation of Guru Nanak’s principles.”

Sarna pointed out that yog sadhna is prohibited in the Sikh faith. "What then was the joy or compulsion in endorsing it from the official platform of the GNDU?”

Paramjit Singh Sarna

Connecting the dots, Sarna noted how saffron infiltration has picked up at Sikh religious, academic and cultural centres in 2019.

"For the first time, we saw Karva Chauth at Sri Bangla Sahib in Delhi, right under the nose of DSGMC president MS Sirsa. We saw characterisation of Guru Nanak in a Delhi Ram Lila. We saw Guru Nanak’s statues in the DSGMC’s Nagar Kirtan and now we see a yog sadhak giving sermons to Sikhs from the GNDU platform,” observed Sarna.

He warned that attempts to interpolate Sikhi have stepped up more than ever before by 2019. "The likes of Sirsa and Dr Sandhu are behind this epidemic. The GNDU holds an explanation to Guru Panth for its choice of chief guest. Its vice-chancellor has lost the right to lead the university raised in commemoration of Guru Nanak Patshah.”

KILLING OF DALIT MAN
Punjab govt announces Rs 20 lacs for Jagmail’s family, job to his widow and free education for his kids

Punjab govt announces Rs 20 lacs for Jagmail’s family, job to his widow and free education for his kids

The Punjab government on Monday announced Rs. 20 lakh in compensation for the family of the Dalit man murdered in Changali Wala village in Sangrur district.

The decision was announced after a meeting between three cabinet ministers and other high officials with the deceased’s widow Manjit Kaur and other family members.

Cabinet Ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh, Vijay Inder Singla and CM’s Secretary Political Capt Sandeep Sandhu represented the government at the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Office.

After the meeting, the family lifted their protest dharna outside the residence of former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal in her native village Lehra.

It was decided at the meeting that the deceased’s widow would be provided a group-D job near her residence, thereby giving relaxation in the prescribed educational qualification. It was also decided to provide free ration up to six months to the family. The entire expenditure on the bhog of deceased would be borne by the state government.

Further, the state would provide Rs. 1.25 lakh for the repair of the house of Jagmail Singh. The Government has also decided to provide free education to the deceased’s children studying in class ninth, sixth and first, up to graduation level.

Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann raised the issue of the man's death on the first day of Parliament's Winter Session in Delhi on Monday.

Activists of several organisations also staged a protest outside senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal's house at Lehra in Sangrur district.

Jagmel Singh, who was badly thrashed and forced to drink urine in Sangrur district, had succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning at the PGIMER here. His legs had to be amputated by doctors because of infection during the treatment.

On October 21, the victim, who was a resident of Changaliwala village, had entered into an altercation with Rinku and some other people over some issue. The matter was resolved with the intervention of villagers, the police said.

Jagmel Singh (in pic) later told the police that Rinku called him to his house on November 7 to talk about the issue. He had alleged that he was thrashed by four people with a stick and an iron rod after being tied to a pillar, and was forced to drink urine when he asked for water.

The police had said that the accused had claimed that the victim was abusing them. Rinku, Amarjit, Yadwinder and Binder were arrested on charges of abduction, wrongful confinement, and other sections of the Indian Penal Code, and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act at the Lehra police station, the police said.

According to an official spokesperson, the family was informed that the Chief Minister has ordered a comprehensive probe by an ADGP rank officer into the murder case. The Chief Minister has ordered the police the challan in the case within a week. All effort would be made to ensure stringent punishment for the culprits within three months.

The ADGP has also been mandated to probe the lapses by the officers, if any, to fix their accountability.

The spokesperson disclosed that DGP Dinkar Gupta had deputed ADGP Gurpreet Deo to undertake the enquiry and to submit a list of recommendations so as to prevent such unfortunate incidents/delays if any in filing the case, in the future. The enquiry officer‘s responsibility should also be fixed to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the erring officers, said the DGP.

Amarinder raising ISI ghost on Kartarpur corridor to please Doval, cut deal: Bir Devinder

Amarinder raising ISI ghost on Kartarpur corridor to please Doval, cut deal: Bir Devinder

Chandigarh: Launching a frontal attack on Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, his former colleague and now bitter critic Bir Devinder Singh on November 5 said he was acting as a frontman of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and was raising the bogey of ISI to sabotage the Kartarpur Corridor.

"Amarinder Singh is blatantly disparaging the spiritual relevance of this historic corridor...(and) is acting as an agent provocateur (and) issuing daily statements on how it is the ISI that is behind the corridor," Bir Devinder Singh, senior vice president of SAD (Taksali), said in a press release here.

"Amarinder Singh is acting as a front man of Mr. Ajit Doval, the all-powerful NSA and is casting a contemptible shadow on the entire venture," he said.

Bir Devinder Singh went for the personal, and accused CM Amarinder Singh for harbouring a Pakistani guest with close links to top Pakistani generals. "Mr. Ajit Doval does not seem to have any objection to the illegitimate stay of this ... journalist of Pakistan, who has enormous proximity to top Pakistani Army Generals," he said.

"I wonder why and how the Government of India has been allowing this sinister arrangement to continue for so long? Can  Mr. Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, Government of India answer this pertinent question?" the former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha asked.

He said Amarinder Singh was facing serious DRI cases of corruption and was "hell bent to prove his faithful credentials to impress Mr. Ajit Doval" to get some reprieve.

Bir Devinder Singh
Bir Devinder said that was the reason behind his repeated references to ISI being behind the corridor.

"If Capt. Amarinder Singh feels so strongly and is vary of the intent of the Pakistan Government to initiating the process for opening the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor for Sikh pilgrims, then why is he leading the first batch of pilgrims to pay obeisance at Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur (Pakistan) by using the same corridor of faith about which he is casting shadows of incredulity and deceit?" he asked.
