Election to the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat will be held on October 11, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Tuesday. The seat had fallen vacant following the death of BJP MP Vinod Khanna.
According to the poll schedule, nominations would start from September 15. The last date for nomination would be September 22. With the dates for scrutiny and withdrawal of candidature would be September 25 and 27 respectively, the poll panel has fixed the date for counting on October 15.
Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in Gurdaspur District immediately.
The BJP is considering the name of Kavita Khanna widow of Vinod Khanna. The Congress is learnt to have zeroed in on state party chief Sunil Jakhar. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has already been authorised by the party high command to finalise the candidate.
