Mata Chand Kaur, wife of former Namdhari sect head late Jagjit Singh, was shot at by unidentified assailants at Bhaini Sahib Gurdwara near Ludhiana on Monday morning. She succumbed to her injuries at around 2 pm.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on Mata Chand Kaur at Bhaini Sahib Gurdwara injuring her critically.
Police sources said the 88-year-old was hit by two bullets - one in the abdomen and other below her ear.
Kaur was rushed to Satguru Partap Singh hospital.
Two men shot at her inside the Gurdwara injuring her critically and fled towards Macchiwara triggering panic in the area. Heavy police force has been deployed after the incident.
After the death of Jagjit Singh, two groups have been at loggerheads over the new head of Namdhari sect. Mata Chand Kaur was the aunt of the present head Uday Singh.
