‘I am an IIT engineer, I can tell you 10 ways to tamper with them’: Kejriwal on EVMs

Once again raising the voice against ‘rigged’ EVMs, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that charges that electronic voting machines may have been tampered cannot be denied.

"I am an engineer from IIT, I can tell you 10 ways to tamper with EVMs,” he told NDTV in an interview.

Kejriwal has been raising his voice against the use of EVMs along with several other leaders from different political parties. "When an independent candidate in Pune, who got zero votes, is asking where his vote has gone, why shouldn’t we question EVM? We cannot shut our eyes,” he added.

Arvind Kejriwal also questioned the integrity of the Election Commission of India (ECI) over EVM tampering issue on Friday, saying the election body failed to restore the confidence of people in electoral process. Arvind Kejriwal alleged the Election Commission was trying to brush things under the carpet regarding issues raised over use of EVMs in elections. The Aam Aadmi Party leader also said the Election Commission is working to make Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win in elections.

"It seems that polls are a sham and the Election Commission is doing everything possible to help BJP win,” said Arvind Kejriwal, while speaking to the NDTV. When asked about why didn’t he raise the issue of EVM tampering when BJP was defeated in Delhi, Bihar and other states, Arvind Kejriwal said that he had no evidence on hacking of electronic voting machines (EVMs) at that time. "We have strong evidence now about EVM tampering. The chips which are made by two different companies, can be manipulated at source; a bug or a Trojan Horse can be inserted in the chips at the point of origin"

MCD elections in Delhi are on April 23, and Kejriwal said his party’s performance will prove his party’s good work in the city. Earlier, on Friday, he also admitted that the defeat in the Rajouri Garden bypoll was because people were angry with the sitting party MLA for leaving the seat. However, he said it won’t affect the party in the civic polls.

Kashmiri youth tied in front of army jeep, used as human shield; Video goes viral

Two days after a video showing army soldiers being heckled by alleged goons in Kashmir, another clip that has gone viral on social media has caused outrage. This time a video clip of a Kashmiri youth allegedly tied in front of an army jeep as human shield against stone pelting has emerged and gone viral.

According to reports, the young man was tied to the front of the jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the army vehicle while passing through Gundipora village of Beerwah where a re-poll was held on Thursday.

In the clip, an army soldier could be heard saying, "Those who throw stones will meet the same fate.” The video shows the army jeep moving ahead of an army patrol, while some villagers could be overheard that the youth had been picked by the army.

Omar Abdullah posted a video and picture on his official twitter account and indulged in a debate over alleged misconduct of Army personnel. "This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!” tweeted Abdullah with a picture of man being tied on front of a jeep of security forces. "Here’s the video as well. A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry and follow up,” added Abdullah.

When columnist Tavleen Singh asked Abdullah why didn’t he react on video of CRPF personnel manhandled by Kashmiri boys, the National Conference leaders confronted saying, "Ma’am seriously? You are going to use that video to justify this action. So we should expect no better from the army than from stone pelters?” Omar Abdullah also took on media, alleging selective outrage. "Let’s see channels going ballistic and having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since "Kashmir is ours” hell with Kashmiris,” he said in another tweet.

BJP’s Manjinder Singh wins Delhi's Rajouri Garden bypoll, AAP Candidate loses deposit

BJP’s Manjinder Singh wins Delhi's Rajouri Garden bypoll, AAP Candidate loses deposit

BJP-SAD’s joint candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa has scored a huge win in the Rajouri Garden bypoll in Delhi, handing humiliating defeat to AAP, which even lost its deposit.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa bagged 40,602 seats, over 50% of the total votes polled, in a boost for the saffron party ahead of the 23 April municipal polls.

Congress’ Meenakshi Chandela finished second with 25,950 votes while AAP’s Harjeet Singh managed to get only 10,243 votes, less than one-sixth of the total votes polled, and lost deposit.

Ahead of the MCD polls, the comprehensive victory in the national capital will be a major boost for the Bhartiya Janata Party.

With the victory, the BJP's tally in the 70-member Delhi Assembly will become four. The Congress does not have any presence in the House.

Sirsa had won the Rajouri Garden assembly constituency in 2013, and was defeated to AAP candidate Jarnail Singh in 2015. The seat fell vacant early this year after AAP's Jarnail Singh quit as MLA to contest the Punjab Assembly poll against SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Rajouri Garden constituency voters were angry over AAP lawmaker Jarnail Singh`s resignation.

"People in the Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency were angry after Jarnail Singh resigned... We tried to make them understand, but seeing the trends it seems they are still angry with the AAP," Sisodia told reporters outside his official residence.

However, he said it was just a by-poll, and added that "we will keep preparing for the coming elections". He further exuded the confidence of winning the upcoming MCD polls.

The voting which was held on April 9 witnessed only 47% of voter turnout, which was very low compared to previous elections. In 2015 assembly elections, voter turnout was about 72%. In 2013 assembly elections, the voter turnout was 68%.

The result of this bypoll is seen as a test for the upcoming municipal poll to be held on April 23, where for the first time, three major parties - AAP, Congress and BJP will be contesting.

Amarinder welcomes PM’s move to hold Punjab-Haryana meet on SYL issue

Amarinder welcomes PM’s move to hold Punjab-Haryana meet on SYL issue

PUNJAB CHIEF Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has welcomed the Prime Minister’s reported decision to hold a meeting of Punjab and Haryana on April 20 to resolve the contentious SYL issue.

The Chief Minister’s statement came in response to a submission made in the Supreme Court by the Union of India, which represented before the court on Monday that the Prime Minister has called for a meeting between the two States-Punjab & Haryana, on April 20 in order to resolve the matter, which would require a deferment of hearing.  The SYL matter is listed before the Supreme Court on April 12, 2017.

The State of Punjab also submitted before the court that a new government had assumed office in the state. It stated before the court that the new government would issue renewed instructions in the matter and hence an adjournment would be necessitated.

The Court took note of the request made and asked counsel to renew the request at 2 pm on April 12.

The State of Punjab was represented by Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani, Advocate General Atul Nanda, Advocate General and Senior Advocate RS Suri, while the Union of India was led by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi.

Later, in his statement, the Chief Minister said he had been seeking the Centre’s intervention in the matter to find an amicable settlement to the issue in the interest of Punjab, which would be deprived of its much-needed water if the SYL construction is allowed to go ahead.

Captain Amarinder, who had in November quit his Lok Sabha membership after a Supreme Court verdict giving a go-ahead to the SYL construction, said his government was committed to protecting the water of Punjab at all cost.

The Congress manifesto also clearly states that the "the Congress government will not allow construction of any new canal including SYL, which takes its river waters outside its territorial jurisdiction.”

Captain Amarinder has repeatedly asserted that the question of allowing Punjab’s river water to go outside the state did not arise since Punjab did not have surplus water to share with other states. He has been underlining the need for a fresh assessment of the quantum of river water actually available with Punjab before taking a final decision in the SYL matter.

Allowing the SYL to be constructed before ascertaining the water availability amounted to putting the cart before the horse, according to Captain Amarinder, who has, on several occasions, stated that Punjab has been subjected to injustice in the matter of water allocation.

‘Spy’ Kulbhushan Jadhav sentenced to death in Pakistan; Full text of his alleged confession

‘Spy’ Kulbhushan Jadhav sentenced to death in Pakistan; Full text of his alleged confession

A Pakistani army court on Monday sentenced alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav to death "for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan”, the military announced.

"The spy has been tried through Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under Pakistan Army Act and awarded death sentence,” the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa "has confirmed his death sentence awarded by FGCM,” it added.

Jadhav was "arrested” on 3 March last year by Pakistan security officials in Balochistan after he entered from Iran. He has been accused by Pakistan of planning "subversive activities” in the country. India has acknowledged Jadhav as a retired Indian Navy officer, but denied the allegation that he was in any way connected to the government.

Following is the full text of Kulbhushan Jadhav's  alleged confession as shown at a press conference:

This press conference was jointly addressed by Pakistan's Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa at the Press Information Department earlier.

"My name is Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav and I am the serving officer of Indian Navy. I am from the cadre of engineering department of Indian Navy and my cover name was Hussein Mubarik Patel, which I had taken for doing some intelligence gathering for Indian agencies.

"I joined the National Defence Academy in 1987 and subsequently joined Indian Navy in Jan 1991 and subsequently served for the Indian Navy till around December 2001 when the Parliament attack occurred and that is when I started contributing my services towards gathering of information and intelligence within India.

"I live in the city of Mumbai in India. I am still the serving officer in the Indian Navy and will be due for retirement by 2022 as a commissioned officer in Indian Navy after having completed 14 years of service by 2002.

"I commenced intelligence operation in 2003 and established a small business in Chabahar in Iran as I was able to achieve undetected existence and visits to Karachi in 2003 and 2004 and having done some basic assignments within India for RAW.

"I was picked up by RAW in 2013 end. Ever since I have been directing various activities in Balochistan and Karachi at the behest of RAW and deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, I was basically the man for Mr. Anil Kumar Gupta who is the joint secretary of RAW and his contacts in Pakistan especially in Balochistan Student Organisation.

"My purpose was to hold meetings with Baloch insurgents and carry out activities with their collaboration."These activities have been of criminal nature, leading to killing of or maiming of Pakistani citizens.

"I realise during this process that RAW is involved in some activities related to the Baloch liberation movement within Pakistan and the region around it.

"There are finances which are fed into the Baloch movement through various contacts or various ways and means into the Baloch liberation (movement) and various activities of the Baloch liberation and RAW handlers go towards activities which are criminal, which are anti-national, which can lead to maiming or killing of people within Pakistan and mostly these activities were centred around of what I have knowledge is of ports of Gwadar, Pasni Jewani and various other installations, which are around the coast damaging various other installations, which are in Balochistan.

"So the activity seems to be revolving and trying to create a criminal sort of mindset within the Baloch liberation which leads to instability within Pakistan. In my pursuit towards achieving the set targets by my handlers in RAW, I was trying to cross over into Pakistan from the Saravan border in Iran on March 3, 2016, and was apprehended by Pakistani authorities while on the Pakistani side and the main aim of this crossing over into Pakistan was to hold (a) meeting with Baloch separatists in Balochistan for carrying out various activities, which they were supposed to undertake and carrying backwards the messages which had to deliver to Indian agencies.

"The main issues regarding this were that they were planning to conduct some operations within the next immediate (near) future so that was to be discussed mainly and that was the main aim of trying to coming into Pakistan.

"So that moment I realised that my intelligence operations have been compromised on my being detained in Pakistan, I revealed that I am an Indian naval officer, and it is on mentioning that I am Indian naval officer, the total perception of the establishment of the Pakistani side changed and they treated me very honourably and they did utmost respect and due regards and have handled me subsequently on a more professional and proper courteous way and they have handled me in a way that befits that of an officer and once I realised that I have been compromised in my process of intelligence operations, I decided to just end the mess I have landed myself in and just wanted to subsequently move on and cooperate with the authorities in removing complications which I have landed myself and my family members into, and whatever I am stating just now, it is the truth and it is not under any duress or pressure. I am doing it totally out of my own desire to mention and come clean out of this entire process which I have gone through last 14 years.”
