Police rescues 51 girls who were being held hostage; sexually exploited by manager
In a shocking incident, about 51 girls were rescued from a madrasa in Lucknow’s Old City area on Friday night. The police raided Madrasa Jamia Khadeejtul Qubra Lilabnat in Yasinganj area under Saadatganj police station after receiving a tip-off that the girls were sexually harassed and arrested the manager of the institution.
A senior police official said madrasa manager Mohammad Taiyab Zia was arrested.
Acting on a tip-off by the locals, a police team carried out a raid at Madarsa Jamia Khadeejtul Qubra Lilabnat in Yasinganj area under Saadatganj police station last night, police said.
"The madarsa manager was arrested and 51 girls being held hostage in the institution in the old city area were rescued following the raid," they said.
Police said as they made arrangements for sending the inmates to their parents, the girls narrated their ordeal alleging inhumane treatment and molestation by the accused.
Speaking to the media, SSP Deepak Kumar said, "A 15-year-old girl student of Gomti Nagar in her written complaint has levelled charges of harassment. She has also alleged that seven other girl students were also molested by Tayyab.”
What comes as a surprise is that no one had an inkling of such activities going on in the madrasa despite it being located at a prime area in Lucknow. The matter only came to light after the girls threw chits out of the windows detailing their ordeal, following which the neighbours alerted the law enforcement agencies.
One of the letters that were recovered from outside the madrassa:
A joint team of the police and local administration raided the madrassa located on the Campbell Road in Saadatganj around 9 pm on Friday and they rescued 51 girls from the madrassa. There were 126 girls from various states and other districts of Uttar Pradesh who were enrolled here.
One of the rescued girls reportedly told officials that when the girls resisted Tayyab’s sexual advances, they were tortured and beaten. Police said, "Out of the 51 rescued girls, seven have alleged sexual abuse and attempt to rape charges against convenor Tayyab Zia.”
When the issue was brought to the knowledge of the madrasa owner Syed Mohd Jilani Ashraf, he also lodged a complaint with the Saadatganj Police against the madrasa manager Taiyyab Zia Ashrafi. The owner said that he had given the building to Ashrafi for running the madrasa. Later on, he turned it into a hostel giving admissions to girls only.
A few days ago, the Uttar Pradesh police had raided two Ashrams of Baba Viredra Dev in Farrukhabad district and had recovered about 54 girls, including three from Nepal.

Hardik Patel asks sulking Gujarat Dy CM Nitin Patel to leave BJP and join Congress
Amid political drama in Gujarat which has begun right after the new government took the charge, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convenor Hardik Patel has invited deputy chief minister Nitin Patel to join him.
Hardik Patel has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not giving respect to "his veteran leader and everyone should stand with him".
"I and my supporters are prepared to talk to the Congress leadership to welcome Nitin Patel in the party if he and 10 other MLAs are willing to resign and come," Hardik Patel told reporters in Ahmedabad.
"If the BJP can't take care of a senior leader like Nitin Patel who has spent many years in building the party, and must be respected, if they can't, Nitin Patel should leave the party," the firebrand leader, whose reservation movement caused a major dent in the ruling party's electoral prospects in the just concluded assembly elections, said.
He claimed he was willing to recommend to the Congress leadership to "accommodate Nitinbhai in a senior position" in the party and that he should come with "at least 10 MLAs".
The Patidar leader also exhorted BJP's Patel leaders to back the Deputy Chief Minister.
"If the BJP is not respecting Patels, then they should leave the party and should accompany Nitin Patel," Hardik Patel said.
Hardik’s statement comes after PTI quoted a BJP source as saying that even after being sworn into office, Nitin Patel is yet to take charge of the portfolios allotted to him and has conveyed his displeasure to the party leadership. In the previous government, the deputy chief minister was in charge of important portfolios such as finance and urban development.
However, this time he has been allotted departments like road and building, and health. Apart from these two, he has also been given the charge of medical education, Narmada, Kalpsar and capital project after the portfolios were allotted on December 28.
According to IANS, not only did Nitin keep away from the office for most of Friday, Secretariat reports also claimed that the veteran politician used his personal four-wheeler instead of the government vehicle and official escort.
The deputy chief minister looked glum and lost even during the first joint press conference of the new Cabinet late on Thursday night and maintained an uncanny silence.
Nitin Patel, who first became the state's health minister back in 1995, was upgraded as a Deputy Chief Minister in 2016 when the BJP decided to drop Anandiben Patel as Chief Minister. The upgrade was meant to signal that the Patel community would continue to get a good deal from the BJP.
Amarinder Govt Galloping Towards More Trouble
DSGMC to lodge FIR on Napoleon painting issue
CHANDIGARH, December 28: Punjab's Amarinder Singh government has more trouble coming its way as the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK has said he now plans to lodge an FIR against the state government and also take up with the Akal Takht the issue of morphing of the tenth Sikh Guru's depiction on a painting of Napoleon.
"No Sikh can tolerate the state government's action of publishing an advertisement that showed Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji attired in the cloak of Napoleon and astride Napoleon's horse. The sarkari advertisement was clearly made by fooling around with the photograph of Napoleon's painting and morphing the image of the Guru on it,” Manjit Singh GK told Punjab Today.
He said he will also be writing to the Akal Takht jathedar to take up the matter since the sensitivities and sentiments of not just the Sikhs but also of people worldwide, who look towards the Sarbansdani Guru for inspiration, are involved.
Earlier, while the Punjab Government ridiculed the reports that pointed out the low level thievery involved in creating the morphed sketch of Guru Gobind Singh, and also slammed the Akali Dal for demanding a withdrawal of the impugned advertisements and an apology, the Haryana Government has ordered an inquiry into such depiction of the founder of the Khalsa panth.
Leading scholars and men of letters have castigated the Amarinder Singh government for this faux pas though some said it was less an issue of sacrilege and more a case of utter stupidity and carelessness that often marks the official approach towards sensitive matters.
Manjit Singh GK said he will also take up the issue with the Akal Takht jathedar since sentiments of not just the Sikhs but also of people worldwide who look towards the Sarbansdani Guru for inspiration are involved.
An official spokesperson of the Punjab government had said that the government had used an already existing image "sourced from a Sikhism website, which was in public domain. It had neither been created nor modified by the Government in any manner.”
Scholars have raised the issue as to why was the tenth Sikh Master shown wearing the same cloak as of Napoleon in the 1802 painting by a lackey artist. The Amarinder Singh government is yet to explain why every single hair, every lock of sable, every twist of the mane, every feature of the body of the horse, from its eyes to its limbs to even the rock underneath the horse's feet was the same as painted by someone nearly a 100 years after the Guru left this world.
An expert with years of teaching in a leading college of fine arts said it should not be difficult for anyone to understand that it is difficult for the winds sweeping the vast plains of Austria 200 years ago to play with the mane and the cloak exactly as these did a hundred years before that somewhere in Punjab.
Many have questioned the silence of the SGPC on the issue, particularly since it was the SGPC itself that had shot off a communiqué to Punjab Police chief Suresh Arora in March this year to take action against those morphing pictures of Sikh gurus on social media.

GAU TASKARI KAROGE TE YUN HI MAARE JAOGE
You will be killed if you smuggle or slaughter cows: BJP MLA
Rajasthan’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Gyan Dev Ahuja, has warned that if anyone indulges in cow smuggling or slaughters a cow, he will be killed.
Ahuja’s threat to cow smugglers came as a response to an alleged cow smuggling incident in Alwar district on Saturday.
"Mera to sidha sidha kehna hai ki gau taskari karoge ya gau kashi karoge to yun hi maare jaoge (I say this clearly: if you smuggle or slaughter cows, you will be killed),” he told reporters.
Not stranger to making controversial and bizarre statements, Ahuja had previously claimed that the premier Jawaharlal Nehru University was a hub of sex and drugs, where 3,000 used condoms and 2,000 liquor bottles were found daily.
On December 12, the Alwar police arrested a suspected cow smuggler and recovered 13 cows from a vehicle in which he was travelling along with three others who managed to get away. The cows were supposedly being taken to Haryana from Bhiwadi in Alwar.
The man caught was allegedly beaten by local residents.
However, Ahuja claimed the accused was injured after the vehicle in which he was allegedly smuggling cows overturned.
"Three men were smuggling cows. When police chased them, they tried to escape through narrow lanes of a village and the vehicle overturned leaving one of the smugglers injured. Two others managed to escape," the Ramgarh legislator claimed when contacted.
He said people resent cow smuggling and slaughter.
"There is anger among people against cow smugglers because they smuggle cows, because they open fire at police when police try to prevent them. They also take roads through villages in Alwar to escape to Haryana and pelt stones at the villagers," he said.
"More than 100 incidents have occurred in the past a few days, which is alarming and unusually high. Police are also doing their job to check such incidents," he said.
