Now, Dyal Singh College Governing Body head tells DSGMC Gen Sec Manjinder Singh Sirsa to leave India, Sirsa calls him a “gunda”

NEW DELHI, November 20: In a highly problematic statement, Dyal Singh College Governing Body chairman Amitabh Sinha, who led the move to change the name of the college to Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya, told Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee general secretary and Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa to leave India if he has a problem with the new name.

Sinha, while defending the decision to change the name of the college, said no one should have a problem with the name Vande Mataram. In a separate statement, Sinha, who is also a BJP leader, said, "Whether it’s your own mother or Bharat mata, mother is mother. Those who have a problem with paying obeisance to mother, there is a question mark on whether they are human beings or not.”

Sinha and Akali Dal MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa came head to head during a debate on a Zee TV channel on the issue of renaming of the Dyal Singh College. Taking a strong exception, Sirsa said he will sue Amitabh Sinha and will teach him a lesson.
  ---------
Sinha told me if you do not like the new name, toh desh chorr do. I ask him why should I leave the country? Amitabh Sinha ne kya desh khareed liya hai? …I will file a case of treason against Amitabh Sinha... Main ehde danda thalle chane chaba diyanga.

"Yesterday, during a debate on Zee TV, Sinha told me if you do not like the new name, toh desh chorr do. I ask him why should I leave the country? Kyon desh utte tuhada koyee vakhra haq hai? Amitabh Sinha ne kee desh khareed liya hai? Us ne jaidaad khareedi hai? Who is he? I will be filing a case against him. I am waiting for a copy of the CD from the channel…I will file a case of treason against Amitabh Sinha. He was trying to usurp the property of Dyal Singh Majithia. Main ehde danda thalle chane chaba diyanga.”

Sirsa was repeatedly referring to the fact that even in Pakistan, library named after Dyal Singh Majithia was running without anyone trying to change its name.

"Let Amitabh Sinha donate his entire property to a Trust and do some public good. Then I will go to his house, singing Vande Mataram,” Sirsa said.

"Main Amitabh Sinha nu ikk challenge karda han - Amitabh Sinha, tu be-imaan hain. Je tu imaandaar hain tan tun apni jaidaad iss Trust de naam karva. Phir asee Vande Mataram naam rakh diyange. Doosriyan di jaidaad utte Vande Mataram kar riha hai," Sirsa said.

Sirsa and Amitabh Sinha once again came head to head on PTC News in a debate on November 20 evening, where Sinha told Sirsa to use his brains and snapped, "Baat tameez se karna mere se. Tameez se baat karo." Sirsa hit back, saying, "Gunda samjhta hai tu apne aap ko...Tumhara maqsad minority ki jayedaad harrapna hai...Kehte ho tum Supreme Court ke advocate ho, baat gundo ki tarah karte ho." Sinha, in turn, accused Sirsa of trying to browbeat him. "Gunde ki tarah to tum behave kar rahe ho," Sinha snapped at Sirsa.

Meanwhile, the principal of the college, Pawan Sharma, has ruled out any reconsideration of the new name. "It's final,” he said. Sirsa has also named Pawan Sharma, alongwith Amitabh Sinha, in his complaint to the Lodhi Road Police Station, accusing them of illegally renaming the college.

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidiyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated to the BJP, said no one should have a problem with the new name as Vande Mataram was neither the name of a person nor of a political group. "It is the national song of the country. Who can hate the name?” Bharat Katana, ABVP Delhi state secretary, said.

Sirsa called it "a grave illegal, unconstitutional and unwarranted act" on the part of Amitabh Sinha, Pawan Sharma and other members of the governing body.

'SO CALLED VALOROUS MAHARAJAS'
What will Scindia, Diggi Raja and Amarinder Singh say, Smriti Irani takes a jibe at Shashi Tharoor

What will Scindia, Diggi Raja and Amarinder Singh say, Smriti Irani takes a jibe at Shashi Tharoor

UNION MINISTER SMRITI Irani took a jibe at Congress leader Shashi Tharoor for his reported ‘maharaja’ comments amidst a row over period drama Padmavati.

Tharoor reportedly said on Thursday the "so called valorous maharajas” had scurried to accommodate themselves when the British "trampled” over their honour and were now after a filmmaker, claiming that prestige was at stake.

Reacting to Tharoor’s remarks, Irani tweeted, "Did all the Maharajs (kings) kneel in front of the British? What will Jyotiraditya Scindia, Diggi Raja (Digvijaya Singh) and Amarinder Singh say on Shashi Tharoor’s comments?”

Congress leaders - Scindia, Digvijay Singh and Amarinder Singh - hail from royal families.

Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia had also slammed his party member Tharoor over the ‘Maharaja’ remark and advised him to study history.  "I think he should study history, I am Jyotiraditya Scindia and I am proud of my past,” Scindia had attacked Tharoor.

Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh on Saturday also countered fellow Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s remark on the erstwhile kings of the country. "We did not accept our defeat. East India Company sent their forces twice to occupy nation. They said they need more force,” news agency ANI quoted Singh as saying. "Meanwhile, Queen Victoria finished the company and became Empress of India,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday while addressing a literary event Tharoor had reportedly said that the 'so called valourous maharajas' had scurried to accommodate themselves when the British trampled over their honour and were now after a filmmaker, claiming that prestige was at stake.

However, after being attacked on social media, the Congress MP clarified his comments and said, "I’m dismayed that some BJP supporters are claiming I attacked Rajput honour…I spoke about the Maharajahs who made their accommodations w/the (with the) British. I have never made a communal comment in my life.”

As for specific concerns of the Rajput community, he said people’s sentiments must be respected in the interest of India’s diversity and harmony. "Rajput valour is part of our history and is not in question. BJP and its censors should take these concerns into account,” Tharoor added.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Padmavati is witnessing protests with some groups alleging that it tampered with historical facts.Yesterday, it was sent back to the filmmaker by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) citing technical reasons. Sources said, "The movie will be reviewed as per set norms once it is sent back to the CBFC after sorting out the issue.”

Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition filed against the release of ‘Padmavati’, saying the CBFC was yet to issue a certificate to the movie.

Modi most popular Indian political leader, finds top American think tank
16.11.17 - PT Bureau
Modi most popular Indian political leader, finds top American think tank

Pew Centre Survey finds people more satisfied with economy

Coming just before Gujarat polls, Team Rahul Gandhi needs to reassess situation

Here is some real bad news for the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, and the timing could not have been worse as it comes days before Gujarat goes to elections, an electoral swashbuckling match between Modi and a resurgent Gandhi.

The latest Pew Research Centre survey has shown that PM Modi remains by far the most popular political figure in India with 88% of the polled people favouring him, a whole 30 points ahead of Congress' Rahul Gandhi at 58%.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi at 57% trailed just behind Rahul Gandhi while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at 39% found himself way behind.

However, since survey was conducted between February 21 and March 10 this year, Team Rahul hopes that the situation has undergone significant change in the last few weeks and the Gandhi scion is now on a resurgence wave. Rahul Gandhi is currently claiming more traction in the social media and the fact that his ascendance to the Congress’ presidentship is now imminent, a similar survey now will throw up different numbers.

Omar Abdullah pointed to the fact that the Pew survey was too old to be meaningful, and situation could have changed by now.

However, what will gladden the hearts of the BJP's proverbial "Three men in a boat" will be the assessment that PM Modi's popularity was buoyed on account of 'growing contentment' with the economy. At a time when the Congress is making Modi's performance on the economic front its focus area, rather than referring to the Hindutva agenda of the BJP, it may send the backroom boys of Rahul Gandhi back to the drawing board.

At a time when the Congress is making Modi's performance on the economic front its focus area, rather than referring to the Hindutva agenda of the BJP, it may send the backroom boys of Rahul Gandhi back to the drawing board.
---------
Pew Research Center, a major American think tank, released its key findings from the latest survey conducted among 2,464 respondents in India.

More than eight-in-ten people surveyed said economic conditions were "good", 19% more than those who made a similar assessment before the 2014 election.

In fact, three times more adults said the economy was "very good."

Seven in ten Indians claimed they were "satisfied" with the way things were going in the country.

"Since 2015, Modi's popularity is relatively unchanged in the north, has risen in the west and the south, and is down slightly in the east," the survey said.
---------
According to Pew Survey, despite periodic outbreaks of religious violence, relatively few Indians see communal relations as a very big problem.
---------
Modi garnered 9 in 10 positive rankings in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, while he managed 8 in 10 positive rankings in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Only 40 per cent expressed confidence in US President Donald Trump to do the right thing regarding world affairs, down 34 points from their faith in his predecessor Barack Obama in 2015.

According to Pew Survey, despite periodic outbreaks of religious violence, relatively few Indians see communal relations as a very big problem.

"Similarly, despite Prime Minister Modi's decision last November to abolish high-value bank notes, less than half of the Indian population sees the lack of availability of cash to be a major problem," the survey said.
