BHUBANESWAR: FINALLY, a political party seems to have decided to adopt transparency in its dealings with the media. As a result, journalists in Odisha found Rs 500 currency notes in their media kits when they went to cover an event of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), where Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari was the chief guest.
As journalists waited for Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Dharmendra Pradhan to arrive at the Dussehera Ground here on Friday, they rummaged through their media kits handed over by the NHAI officials and found a crisp Rs 500 currency note in each kit.
Media news portal JantaKaReporter put out a video of journalists protesting and displaying the currency notes, a clear instance of bribe.
The journalists also said that the media kits were distributed by NHAI officials.
Police confirmed that a local journalist Ranjan Patra lodged a complaint with the Angul Police Station. An NHAI official who had distributed the kits said he had no information about what the kit contained.
Both the ministers attended the "Bhumi Pujan” for the construction venture to widen the Angul-Sambalpur, Tileibani-Sambalpur and Balanga-Jharpokharia sections of the national highway.
